Darrell Hay understands that leadership is a privilege, not a position. After a 16-year professional career spanning over 1,000 games, he now dedicates himself to teaching today’s athletes what experience has taught him—how to think the game, prepare like a pro, and embrace the small details that separate good from great.
As Head Coach of the Boise State Broncos Hockey Club, Hockey Director for the Junior Steelheads, and Lead Instructor at DHHD, Hay’s focus is on building players, not just teams. He believes in creating an environment where athletes grow through challenge, accountability, and a commitment to something bigger than themselves.
Respected for his humility and tireless work ethic, Hay is the kind of coach who deflects credit and puts his players first. His impact isn’t measured in wins and losses but in the lessons his athletes carry forward—on and off the ice.
Away from the rink, his greatest team is his family—his wife, Casey, and their four children, McKenna, Sofia, Jaxson, and Cash—who remind him daily that the most important legacy isn’t found on a scoresheet.
